With simple ingredients like honey, BBQ sauce, and cream, this dish is easy to prepare but delivers a restaurant-quality taste.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak, cut into strips
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 3 cups beef broth
- 8 oz (225g) pasta (penne or rotini works well)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the steak strips and cook until browned, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the steak from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the onions and garlic. Stir to combine.
- Pour in the BBQ sauce and honey, stirring to combine. Add the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Once the broth is simmering, add the pasta to the pot and stir to make sure it’s submerged in the liquid. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
- When the pasta is cooked, reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce becomes creamy.
- Add the cooked steak strips back into the pot and stir to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to heat the steak through.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
-
The dish can be customized by using different cuts of steak or even swapping the meat for a vegetarian option.
-
For a lighter version, substitute the cream with a low-fat alternative and use leaner steak cuts.
-
BBQ sauce and honey are key to achieving the unique flavor of this dish, so adjust them to your preference if you like it sweeter or spicier.
